Tom Hanks leads scooter craze

By Bryan Alexander, USA TODAY

LOS ANGELES Tom Hanks' arrival on a beat-up 1981 Yamaha Riva scooter at the Larry Crowne premiere Monday gave a glimmer of hope to the growing subculture of scooter riders across the country.

Tom Hanks cruises into the 'Larry Crowne' premiere Monday.

Could the oft-ridiculed form of transportation become accepted in America's movie-land?

Hollywood has learned to embrace the motorcycle for adventure along with the Prius to save the planet (and for cheaper fuel bills) ? shouldn't the scooter, which encompasses all of these points, now have its place in the spotlight?

With the scooter-heavy Larry Crowne opening Friday, it might be now or never. Hanks, a veritable Mayor of Moped-land, is leading the charge in more ways than one.

"We should all be on these scooters, Los Angeles should look like Taipei," he beamed. "Hey it's dirt cheap and you have the wind blowing through your hair on a beautiful day like today."

Hanks plays a man forced to ride a scooter in tough economic times in his romantic comedy with Julia Roberts. But he backs the role up as a proud owner of $3,200 Genuine Buddy in real life.

His support mirrors a national trend of scooter sales which directly follows the prices of gas. The Motorcycle Industry Council reports that when gas prices spiked in 2008, scooter sales hit an all-time high. Sales are hot again nationally in 2011, up 50 percent in the first quarter year-over-year.

Actors Zach Galifianakis and David Duchovny are just a couple of Hollywood's recent converts to the mode of transportation.

But not everyone in Hollywood is convinced that scooters are practical. Rita Wilson politely declined to join her husband on the ride so she could appropriately bling-out for the premiere. The casually-dressed Hanks, she lovingly pointed out, looked like he was going to be attending "a basketball game."

When asked if a man can still be cool and ride a scooter, Wilson answered carefully as her husband looked on.

"I think you can be scooter cool," she said slowly. "But you have to see beyond the helmet. Not even Brad Pitt looks good in these helmets."

Hanks helmet looks particularly goofy in Larry Crowne. But Philip McCaleb, owner of Chicago's Genuine Scooter who provided scooters for Crowne, says there are far better looking helmets. Hanks was "embracing his inner dork" with his selection, he says.

But still others on the Crowne's red carpet were less diplomatic about scooter's potential to dazzle Tinsel-town. Crowne co-star Rob Riggle pondered for a moment what it would take to get him on a Vespa.

"If I was being chased by some sort of large animal that was faster than me," he finally said, "then yes, absolutely, a Vespa would be an option."

But none of this naysaying could stifle the enthusiastic Hanks from spreading the good word from his premiere bully pulpit. He even tried to convert pal Larry David by shouting across the red carpet about the scooter's ability to maneuver LA's notorious traffic.

"How bad was it on Sunset and the 405 on the way here?" asked Hanks loudly. "You know, you really should have come in a scooter."

David smiled, waved a dismissive hand and walked into the movie. Hanks has his work cut out for him.

Tom Felton's adoption request

A fan once tried to adopt Tom Felton.

The 'Harry Potter' actor - who played evil Draco Malfoy in the wizard franchise - once received a "disturbing" request for him to divorce his biological parents and move from his native England to the US to start a new life with an unknown man.

He explained: "An American once tried to adopt me. It was the most disturbing fan mail I received. He was very serious.

It wasn't just a letter. He sent a binder of official documents that he'd filled out for me, so I just had to sign, change my name to Draco, then divorce my parents and go over to America to live with him.

The 23-year-old star - who was just 13 when he first appeared in 'Harry Potter' alongside Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe - admitted when he started off in the movie industry he was merely a "rank amateur" who was picked for the role because he looked like his alter-ego.

Tom added to Live magazine: "Let's be honest, we weren't picked for 'Harry Potter' for our acting ability - it was because we looked like the characters as they'd been written.

"We started out as rank amateurs, and well be lucky if we've learnt something over the past 10 years. It's a question of what we do with that now, where do we go from here?"

Veteran actor John C. Reilly adds 'Terri' to his filmography

Growing up, John C. Reilly never expected to be in Hollywood.

"I just saw movies as these bigger-than-life things, and the way actors were onscreen, I just thought that was the way they were," says the Chicago native. But with a face that would best be described as a mug, the 46-year-old actor has appeared in more than 40 movies - big films, small ones, dramas and comedies - and has worked with some of the best directors in the business.

On Friday, he opened in "Terri," an indie film about an overweight teen, Terri (Jacob Wysocki), who lives with his uncle, who shows early signs of dementia. Reilly plays vice principal Mr. Fitzgerald, who takes a personal interest in helping the kids at the school who are "different."

The actor says he was attracted to the role because of the journey the character takes.

"He begins as this confident authority figure who has the world all figured out and then the more time you spend with him, the more you realize that he's a guy who's actually becoming unglued a little bit and he starts to question what life is all about."

If you look at Reilly's resume, you would think that he is much like his character.

In 2003, he achieved a first in Oscar history by having featured roles in three of the five films nominated for best picture. He was Julianne Moore's husband in "The Hours," a corrupt policeman in Martin Scorsese's "Gangs of New York" and Renee Zellweger's sappy husband in "Chicago,"

for which he received an Academy Award nomination as best supporting actor. Yet Reilly says that while the kids working on "Terri" may have thought he knew it all, the veteran actor isn't so assured.

"I never really feel like an expert," says the actor. "It's a nerve-racking business. I wish I really did feel confident and laid-back about it all. That's just not the case."

The fifth of sixth children, Reilly started taking acting classes when he was 8 or 9 at a nearby park in his hometown.

"As a kid, it was so empowering," he says. "The first time I went to this drama class we made up stuff and suddenly that was our show."

While actors were never role models - that was his dad - one of the actors Reilly admired growing up was Gene Wilder. "I really liked him because he was funny. He had intensity. He had a compassionate quality about him that was different than the other macho kind of male role models of the time. There are not many people like that."

It could be argued that Reilly has had that type of diverse career himself. As a youth he performed in a lot of musicals - "Fiddler on the Roof," "Guys and Dolls," "Jesus Christ Superstar" - and he is known for his poignant number, "Mr. Cellophane," in the film "Chicago."

"I get a lot of happiness out of the singing and playing music," says Reilly, who did the parody biopic "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story," about the wild career of a country-rock star. The actor occasionally performs around town, singing and playing guitar and covering mostly traditional, roots and country music.

Though Reilly went to drama school at DePaul University in Chicago, it wasn't until he nearly graduated that he started calling himself an actor. It took the casting of another actor from his neighborhood (Kevin J. O'Connor in Francis Ford Coppola's "Peggy Sue Got Married") that allowed him to believe he could end up in a Hollywood movie.

"I couldn't believe it could be possible until I had a concrete example of somebody I knew making it. It was really inspiring."

When he was 22, Brian De Palma cast him in the 1988 Vietnam drama "Casualties of War." It was a small part, eventually expanded, and he got to take his first plane ride. Reilly has been working steadily ever since in films as varied as "The Aviator," "Boogie Nights," "A Prairie Home Companion," "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" and "Step Brothers."

He also met his future wife, Alison Dickey, who is a producer on "Terri." The couple have two children, but Reilly is fiercely protective of them and doesn't talk about his family.

From a script by Patrick deWitt, "Terri" is directed by Azazel Jacobs. "I like Azazel because he's very patient with letting you reveal the character," says Reilly. "He's not pushing some agenda. He's just trying to give you a sense of peace and space. He has a lot of compassion as a human being."

Reilly says that in Hollywood a director will say one thing in a meeting and then it will be different on a set. "Some people make movies because they're ambitious people," he says. "With somebody like Azazel, the whole thing to him is art. Hopefully, there is a way he can sell that, but it's nice to work with somebody who's first commitment is to truth and honesty and good storytelling."

Reilly, who has signed on for a cameo in Sacha Baron Cohen's "The Dictator," has two highly anticipated films due this year - the Cannes Film Festival sensation "We Need to Talk About Kevin" and "Carnage."

In "Kevin," from Lionel Shriver's controversial novel, he and Tilda Swinton play the parents of a schoolboy responsible for a Columbine-style rampage at a high school. "Carnage" is Roman Polanski's adaptation of Yasmina Reza's Tony Award-winning play "God of Carnage," which also stars Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster and Christoph Waltz.

Reilly also recently finished shooting the comedy "Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie." (Fans are familiar with his Dr. Steve Brule character - a loopy TV correspondent - from a number of videos available on the Internet.)

Reilly says when he was studying acting in college people always said "real acting" was dramatic acting. On the other hand, he had been in lots of musicals and comedies before then.

"I remember when I did `Talladega Nights,' people were like, `Who knew that John C. Reilly could be funny?' But I felt like there were a lot of funny scenes in `Boogie Nights,"' he says. "Everyone's always surprised by your secrets except you."

Cindy Anthony Could Not Have Searched for Chloroform, Prosecution Says

Cindy Anthony Could Not Have Searched for Chloroform, Prosecution Says | Casey Anthony

Orlando Sentinel/MCT/Landov(2)

Did Cindy Anthony search for chloroform as she testified?

When she took the stand last week, Cindy Anthony shocked the courtroom by taking responsibility for several incriminating searches on the family computer.

On Friday, the prosecution called John Camperlengo, chief compliance officer for Gentiva Health, the company where Cindy Anthony worked in March 2008. He testified that Cindy was making entries at her office computer at the same time she claimed she had search for chlorophyll, which led her to various sites about chloroform, as well as searches for "chest injuries."

Camperlengo testified that, because Gentiva complies with HIPAA laws, they monitor all logins and logouts on the business computers.

"Was Mrs. Anthony logged in and working on those dates?" asked prosecutor Linda Drane Burdick.

"Yes," Camperlengo said.

At the testimony, Cindy Anthony vigorously shook her head and sighed.

Then Cindy Anthony's supervisor took the stand. Debbie Polisano testified that the record-keeping rules at Gentiva were strict. Presented with company time cards, Polisano testified that Cindy Anthony was at work when the searches were conducted.

"It would have been illegal to say she was working when she was not," Polisano testified.

Prosecutors allege that Casey Anthony used chloroform to kill her daughter, 2-year-old Caylee, and that these searches ? done three months before the toddler's death ? show that the crime was premeditated.

Casey Anthony, who could face the death penalty in the murder trial, had no reaction to the testimony on Friday.

Survey "Thermometer Of Startup Investment In Spain 2011" Demonstrates Paucity Of Women In The Sector

The report, produced by Ready4Ventures, notes that only 4 out of 66 investors and 4 out of 109 entrepreneurs interviewed were women. Both data serve to underline the need for Ellas 2.0?s mission to remedy the shortage of female talent in the industry.

Other significant findings were that 72% of entrepreneurs used savings and family support to launch their projects and 43% see grants as a primary source of funding.

The entrepreneurs surveyed considered ICT as the sector with the most potential. The most frequently cited business challenges for startups were access to finance, customer acquisition and bureaucratic public administration.

The good news is that 55% of investors believe they have more money to invest during 2011 and 2012 and only 18% believe they have less.

You can access the full report (in Spanish) here .

Happy 25th Birthday, Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan turns 25 years old today, and what a year she's had. Make that: What a 25 years she's had. Right now, she's free to celebrate wherever she likes, since her house arrest ended on June 29 (her first night out already triggered a paparazzi frenzy).

A year ago, on her last birthday, LiLo could hardly have predicted the legal sagas that would unfold in the months ahead.

Back in July 2010, just a few days after turning 24, she was sentenced to 90 days in jail, followed by 90 days in rehab, for probation violation stemming from her 2007 DUI. (Lohan's profane manicure made headlines during that court appearance.) She moved into a sober living facility as the start of her jail stint loomed.

She wasn't behind bars long: Booked into jail in handcuffs on July 20, 2010, Lohan was released less than two weeks later and ordered to begin rehab at UCLA Medical Center. But she only served a fraction of that sentence as well, completing treatment in just 23 days. Less than a month later, she was headed back to court, tweeting, "Regrettably, I did in fact fail my most recent drug test..."

She was booked into jail again on Sept. 24, 2010, but a judge overturned the decision, and she left jail the same day when she was granted $300,000 bail. That same month, she settled a lawsuit she'd filed against E-Trade over a commercial in which a baby named "Lindsay" was called a "milkaholic."

Days after getting bailed out of jail, Lohan entered rehab at Betty Ford. In late October, she was ordered to remain in rehab until Jan. 3, 2011. While she was in treatment, 'Inferno' director Matthew Wilder announced Lohan would no longer star in his Linda Lovelace biopic.

In December 2010, less than a month before her release from rehab, Lohan got into a scuffle with Betty Ford staff member Dawn Holland (who was eventually fired for talking to the media, and withdrew her request to press charges).

While she walked out of rehab on schedule, Lohan soon walked right into trouble again when a Venice, Calif., jewelry store accused her in January of stealing a necklace, claiming they had surveillance video of the actress sneaking out of the shop wearing their merchandise. On Feb. 9, Lohan was charged with felony grand theft and pleaded not guilty.

On March 10, 2011, her ninth court appearance in ten months, Lohan was given two weeks to choose between a plea deal or a trial; she soon rejected a plea bargain.

In late April, her theft charge was reduced to a misdemeanor -- she pleaded no contest -- but the actress was given 120 days in jail and 480 hours of community service for probation violation (for being charged with theft in the first place). She posted bail and left the detention center within hours, and due to overcrowding, her sentence turned into house arrest.

During her house arrest, she shot a commercial and hosted a roof party, and then news broke in June that Lohan had tested positive for alcohol. But she was quickly let off the hook on a technicality (she was only supposed to be tested for drugs).

Could the troubled starlet's quarter-century birthday finally mark the beginning of the end of her legal woes? Lohan surely hopes that this year's theme, instead of jail and rehab, will be her long-anticipated career comeback, as she prepares for her role in the John Travolta movie 'Gotti: Three Generations'.

Bikini body tips from the stars

How celebs shape up - and Now nutritionist Susie Perry's verdict

Lydia Bright | TOWIE Marbella | Pictures | Photos | New

Lydia Bright ditched bread, rice and chips to get her bikini body

Heidi Klum

Start the day with eggs

Have a couple of poached, boiled or scrambled eggs for breakfast and lose up to two-thirds more weight. Eggs release energy slowly and make you feel fuller for longer.

Susie says ?Eggs work but if you're constipated they can block you up even more. Porridge is a good alternative.'

Beyonc

Slimmers can lose an average 5lb extra if they drink two glasses of water three times a day before meals.

Water makes you feel full, so you eat less.

Susie says ?Water does make you feel fuller but it goes through the stomach quickly, which can induce hunger pangs. Try salad with chickpeas or soup instead.'

No carbs before Marbs!

The girls ditched bread, pasta and chips a month before going on holiday to Marbella to get a flat tum.

Susie says ?There's no need to ditch all carbs; you may risk loss of energy and vitamin deficiency. Eat "good" carbs and you can still have a flat tum.'

Jennifer Aniston

Mustard, turmeric, ginger and cayenne pepper are metabolism boosters that aid digestion.

Susie says ?I like this one. All of these spices add flavour and have an impact on detoxification and metabolism and some, like chilli powder, increase fat burning.'

Angelina Jolie

Tuck into a bread-free sandwich

Dump the dough and opt for the latest lunch trend: a lettuce boat sarnie.

Waitrose has launched a range of breadless butties and, at 125 calories a pop, it's a tasty way of cutting out the carbs.

Susie says ?Cutting out bread is good because it can lead to bloating, but make sure you still include complex carbohydrates such as brown rice, lentils, pulses or quinoa in your diet.'

Gwyneth Paltrow

Munch on strawberries

These little red fruits can help you lose weight by suppressing your appetite, stimulating your metabolism and controlling your blood sugar.

Susie says ?There are only 49 calories in one cup of strawberries and they're packed full of vitamins,

but they're also high in sugar and one of the points of dieting is to curb your sweet tooth, so eat them in moderation.

Snacking on fruit is always a great idea, though.'

Not letting her travel-intensive schedule impede her quest for fitness, Lady Gaga stepped out for a yoga class in downtown Taipei on Saturday night (July 2).

Wearing a black and gold themed outfit coordinated with her yoga mat, the "Edge of Glory" singer took to Pure Yoga for the one hour session before exiting to find a crowd of nearly 500 fans gathered around the gym's door.

In Taiwan for the first time ever, Gaga is gearing up for a big day tomorrow, as Taichung Mayor Jason Hu will be out to proclaim July 3rd as "Lady Gaga Day" to coincide with the American pop idol's visit.

Insiders tell Gossip Center that the city government will throw a party to welcome the 25-year-old, during which Hu will present her with the keys to the city.

Maria Shriver Filing For Divorce From Arnold Schwarzenegger

Saturday, July 2nd, 2011

maria-shriver-divorce-from-arnold-schwarzenegger

It?s official?and kind of obvious.

Maria Shriver is filing for divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger after 25 years of marriage.

It was expected to happen, but it?s still kind of a shock. They?ve been married for so long, then all of a sudden a love child comes through (and possible more love children).

Arnold was putting his acting on hiatus to concentrate on his marriage, but we guess that he can just try to get in another movie because his marriage is going further down the drain.

Although we don?t know if anyone would even care to see him in a new movie. His reputation is just a little screwed over at this point.

The best thing to focus on is what to do about the children. According to the petition, Maria is asking for joint custody of the kids.

As for Arnold?s love child (or children), that?ll be up to him and his mistress (or mistresses).

He said: "One night I used a sword on stage and I stick it in the stage. I used a sword and went like that and went right through my leg and came right out the other end.

"At the time you have so much adrenaline on stage I didn't really feel it- it hurt a little bit but it wasn't like, 'Oh that's the worst thing ever' and I kind of went, 'Well I'm in the moment right now, it's in my leg, leave it there'."

At the time you have so much adrenaline on stage I didn't really feel it- it hurt a little bit but it wasn't like, 'Oh that's the worst thing ever' and I kind of went, 'Well I'm in the moment right now, it's in my leg, leave it there'.

Alice admitted fans just assumed the accident was a apart of the show, while his band were worried, but he managed to stem the blood flow eventually himself.

He told BANG Showbiz: "The audience thought it was a trick, the band knew it wasn't a trick- the band went, 'Whhhat?' Because every time I'd move, it would spurt a little.

"Then of course after the shows over and the adrenalines gone...owww! I took a bottle of whisky and I poured it on to cauterise it."

Alice, 63, is used to injuring himself on stage, and admits sometimes it takes days before he realises how seriously he has damaged himself.

He said: "Every night something happens. I fell off the stage in Vancouver one night and broke all my ribs on the right side and got back up and finished the show because you didn't really feel it right then.

"I had about twenty-eight stitches in my head and didn't really realise I had a concussion until about the fourth song and all of a sudden I started seeing double. When the shows going you don't stop the show, no matter what happens, you keep the show going."

Alice returns to the UK for his 'Halloween Night of Fear' tour in October.

Tickets for the six shows are available from www.livenation.co.uk.

Critics Slam Performance of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley received rave reviews for her red carpet appearances over the last week because, well, just look at the photos below.

But the same can't be said of the model/actress' performance in Transformers: Dark of the Moon. A sampling of the bashing follows...

Chris Brown joins planking craze

Chris Brown posted a Twitter picture of himself planking on Thursday.

Chris Brown can sing, he can dance ? and as he proved this week ? he can plank.

The R&B star tweeted a picture of himself planking (the new hyped art of lying flat on a random surface) earlier this week.

The stunt, which was done on top of a round display case, got mostly high marks.

"Now that is a great effort...but...being Australian and seeing what we have done with planking here...you are going to have to step up your game...I dare you!" one commenter wrote on his TwitPic page.

Planking, which became a Facebook fad beginning in Australia earlier this year, has become a much-embraced fad for daredevils.

Brown joins a long list of celebrities including Kristen Bell, Ellen Page and Flavor Flav who have tried it out.

Since there are always people who seem to point out the slight ridiculousness of the fad, not everyone was so nice about the photo.

"Somebody need to give you a good old-school, southern whippin," one less-than-impressed commenter wrote.

Carlos Rico Dumps 4-Year-Old Son By Highway, Police Say

SWEETWATER, Texas -- A father abandoned his 4-year-old son along a West Texas highway, and the injured boy spent several hours alone in the dark before a passing motorist picked him up, police said.

Carlos Rico, 22, stopped his car along a cactus-lined stretch of Interstate 20 near Sweetwater at about 3 a.m. Tuesday and "threw the boy out of the car like a bag of garbage," Sweetwater police Chief Jim Kelley told the Abilene Reporter-News on Tuesday.

The boy was picked up about three hours later by the local high school basketball coach and taken to a hospital, where doctors removed at least 500 cactus spines from the child's body, Kelley said. The boy was in the state's custody on Wednesday.

"I've seen a lot of bad things. This is absolutely a first. I've never seen a 4-year-old angel left on the side of the road for dead. He's such a sweet little boy," he said.

Rico was driving from Lubbock to Saginaw when he abandoned his son, and he was taken into custody Tuesday by police in the Fort Worth suburb, Saginaw police spokesman Damon Ing told The Associated Press on Wednesday. Rico's cousin called police when Rico showed up to see him without his son, and investigators determined that Rico was the father of the boy found near Sweetwater, he said.

Rico told Saginaw investigators that God told him to choke the boy and expel him from the car, Kelley said. There was bruising on the boy's throat, he said.

Ing said Rico had been charged with child endangerment and did not have a lawyer representing him. His bond was set at $50,000.

Al Hunt, the motorist who found the boy, said he initially thought he was looking at a guardrail post until it moved.

"It took me seconds to realize, `it's a little kid there,'" the 54-year-old coach said.

He said he pulled over and, not seeing a vehicle the child might have been in, ran across the road and scooped the boy into his arms. He said the boy's lips were cracked as if he were dehydrated, and that the only response the boy gave to his questions was when he held up four fingers when Hunt asked his age.

"He didn't say a word to me. He didn't say a word to anybody. He never said a word," Hunt said.

Kelley said Rico would be brought to Sweetwater, about 225 miles west of Dallas, where he could face additional charges, including attempted murder or attempted capital murder, which could apply because the boy is younger than 6, he said.

The boy's stepmother in Lubbock came to Sweetwater to be with him. The whereabouts of the boy's biological mother were not immediately known, and it was unclear if she is involved in his life.

Marleigh Meisner, a spokeswoman for Child Protective Services, told The Associated Press that there is no history of abuse involving the boy's family. She said a custody hearing is set for July 7.

Could Selena Gomez Fill Charlotte's Shoes in a 'Sex and the City' Prequel?

Ever since rumors that a 'Sex and the City' prequel could be hitting theaters sometime in the future popped up, it's been an all-out guessing game as who which young stars could fill the now-iconic shoes of Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte.

The latest name to add to the list? Hollywood "It" girl and Justin Bieber's girlfriend Selena Gomez, of course.

The speculation comes straight from the 'SATC' author herself, revealing to The Daily Caller she'd love to see the 'Monte Carlo' star channel Charlotte York should her prequel make it to the big screen.

"You know, I don't know...Casting is like kismet. I'm going to get into trouble for this, but I was looking at some pictures of Selena Gomez today and thinking 'she'd make a really good young Charlotte,'" Candace Bushnell said. "She's so pretty. I was like...gosh, wouldn't she be great? Am I right or wrong? I'm not good at this. If I say something like that, then the next thing I know, people are like, no!"

But one thing Bushnell, who just released the second 'SATC' prequel, 'Summer and the City,' knows for sure is that the early days of Carrie & Co. will be brought to life -- one way or another.

"Definitely something on the screen," Bushnell said of the prequel. "Big or small screen."

The author was mum on rumors that Blake Lively could take on the role of a young Carrie Bradshaw, but did comment on the two 'SATC' movies starring the original HBO crew.

"Love 'em," Bushnell said, adding she can't take credit for the films. "I wasn't involved with the movies, but Michael Patrick King, who wrote and directed a lot of episodes of 'Sex and the City,' he wrote and directed the movies and he's fantastic."

Do you think Gomez could fill a young Charlotte York's shoes?

MySpace is reinventing itself ? and a good makeover needs some A-list input.

Justin Timberlake, 30, is taking a stake in the financially failing social networking site that was sold to Specific Media, a digital media company, on Wednesday for $35 million.

"There's a need for a place where fans can go to interact with their favorite entertainers, listen to music, watch videos, share and discover cool stuff and just connect," Timberlake said in a statement first posted by The Hollywood Reporter.

"I'm excited to help revitalize MySpace by using its social media platform to bring artists and fans together in one community," he continues of the site that was originally founded in 2003.

There is no word on specifically how much of a stake Timberlake will own, but the company's COO Chris Vanderhook is excited to have him on board.

"Justin is tremendously talented and passionate about the opportunities for artists to build communities with their fans," he tells PEOPLE. "He believes MySpace is a great place to do that." With reporting by AILI NAHAS

Which Peter Frampton songs are his faves?

By Marco R. della Cava, USA TODAY

Every fan of Peter Frampton's epic 1976 album Frampton Comes Alive! has a favorite song, whether it's talk-box-filled tune Do You Feel Like We Do or sunny singalong Show Me the Way.

  • "I want to thank you": Peter Frampton is on a 35th anniversary 'Comes Alive!' tour through November.

"I want to thank you": Peter Frampton is on a 35th anniversary 'Comes Alive!' tour through November.

So which songs does the man himself prefer?

"It's got to be Lines on My Face, Doobie Wah and I Wanna Go to the Sun," says Frampton, who is on tour performing the album in its entirety in the USA and in Europe through Nov. 23.

"Lines is just the favorite song I ever wrote," says Frampton. "And Doobie Wah I am playing for the first time in 35 years, and it is just so much fun."

But it's Sun that amounts to a musician's dream of stardom.

"I wrote it when I was 22 or 23," he says. "I was saying, 'I want to make it.'"

Once Comes Alive! came out, Frampton went from "two fans waiting backstage to people throwing themselves at the car like flies." But his greatest point of pride isn't the album that captured a nation's heart during the Bicentennial year.

"What means the most to me is the critical acclaim I got as a guitar player on Fingerprints," he says. "It was my first huge success that had nothing to do with Frampton Comes Alive!"

A judge has granted Brooke Mueller to get direct child support payments from Charlie Sheen.

LOS ANGELES -- A judge has ordered Charlie Sheen's former bosses to garnish $55,000 a month for child support from any payments they make to the former "Two and a Half Men" star.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Hank Goldberg on Friday approved a request by Brooke Mueller Sheen to garnish any payments Warner Bros. Television makes to her ex-husband.

The former couple was divorced on May 2, about two months after Warner Bros' fired Sheen from "Men." The actor and the studio have been fighting over payments ever since.

The hefty monthly payments are intended to support the Sheens' twin sons and were part of a divorce settlement they reached earlier this year.

The actor's spokesman Larry Solters declined to comment. Brooke Sheen's attorney did not immediately return a phone message.

Decathalon coordinator becomes part-time job

Los Angeles Unified's nationally recognized Academic Decathlon program took several hits this week as the district finalized a budget that threatens its status as a national powerhouse in the scholastic competition.

The district is reducing Academic Decathlon coordinator Cliff Ker's position to a part-time job, and assigning him to also work part time as an assistant principal in Bell.

LAUSD has won 12 national championships in the last two decades, and Ker has run the program for the last 11 years.

As part of the reductions the district had to make this year to close a $408 million budget gap, individual decathlon coaches will also see cuts to the stipends they receive for the massive number of hours they devote to their school teams.

"Over the years there have been times where it's seemed like I'm the only one who cares about this program, but I've tried to make it work as best I can with all obstacles," Ker said.

"I don't know how this is going to work, but I will do my best to make sure that it does... I can't let the kids and coaches down."

Ker, who lives in Chatsworth, will also be assigned as a part-time assistant principal at Bell High School

- more than 45 miles from his home.

Decathlon coaches, who often work six to eight hours a day after school for much of the school year, used to receive stipends in the fall and the spring but will now only receive a spring stipend of about $2,100.

The Academic Decathlon program pits teams of students from around the country against each other in a series of local, regional state and national scholastic contests, each with 10 tests on a common theme.

The Academic Decathlon has been a particular point of pride in the San Fernando Valley, where local high schools, including El Camino Real and Taft, have won a combined nine titles.

The program has been on the LAUSD chopping block before.

In 2000, the district covered all $300,000 of the competition's expenses, which includes banquets and prizes for the winners. That amount has dwindled over the years, while corporate sponsors were asked to pick up more and more of the total.

In 2009 district officials threatened to shut down the program if $100,000 in donations could not be raised. Ker helped raise the money.

LAUSD Chief Academic Officer Judy Elliott assured the cuts would not threaten the quality of the program.

"The program is not being eliminated," Elliott said.

"But this year, as we're laying off teachers, counselors, psychologists... nobody can escape budget cuts."
